What is Breachout?
Breachout is a top-down real-time-with-pause tactics roguelite made by Dexsidius. You lead an openly corrupt SWAT team through raids where the signed warrant is only half the job. The other half is taking anything valuable from inside. Breachout runs on Windows and is played through itch.io. It uses mouse and keyboard controls, with five hand-made buildings, randomized threats, and a career built around risky extraction.
How a run of Breachout plays
A run of Breachout starts paused on a building plan. Mark waypoints, choose how doors open, and set go codes before pressing space. Officers then execute your orders in real time while facing, sightlines, noise, and heat decide what happens next. A raid can end through escape, lockdown, or losing the squad. Carry loot to an exit, then choose what goes into evidence and what goes into your pocket. Suspicion, money, death, and arrest shape the career.
Why Breachout is worth a try
Breachout gives the tactical raid format a crooked extraction twist. You are not simply clearing rooms; you are deciding whether the take is worth pushing through rising HEAT and incoming backup. Threats and positions refresh between raids, so learned maps never become completely safe. Loot also changes movement and combat, while permanent arrest and death make every officer matter. The full after-action replay and reusable seed add extra reasons to study a failed plan.
Who will enjoy Breachout
Breachout suits players who enjoy deliberate tactics, roguelite careers, and decisions that can permanently hurt. It is a strong fit for anyone who likes planning a raid, watching the plan break, and adapting under pressure. Collectors will have weapons, ammunition, armour, recruits, and loot to manage rather than a simple upgrade treadmill. Breachout is released, but its creator is actively asking for balance feedback. Expect a Windows-only game with serious consequences and no browser play.
FAQ
Breachout FAQ
Is Breachout free to play?
Yes. Breachout is free to play through its itch.io page. The available game is a Windows-only 64-bit build, so it is not a browser game. You unzip it and launch breachout.exe without installing a launcher.
Who made Breachout?
Breachout was made by Dexsidius. The project used Claude Code for its code, generated art, and design document. Its sprites are flat vector shapes drawn by scripts and tinted at runtime, rather than produced by an image model.
Where can I play Breachout?
You can get Breachout from Dexsidius’s itch.io page. It runs on Windows 64-bit, launches from breachout.exe after unzipping, and saves careers in the folder beside the game. It does not run in a browser tab.
How do you play Breachout?
Plan each raid while paused, place waypoints, choose door actions, and coordinate officers with go codes. Press space to execute the plan. Manage heat, avoid deadly lockdown consequences, extract valuable loot, and decide how much of the take to declare.
Is Breachout like a survivors-like game?
Not really. The game is a real-time-with-pause tactics roguelite focused on planning raids, sightlines, extraction, and squad losses. It shares the run-based pressure and long-term consequences of roguelites, but moment-to-moment play is deliberate rather than automatic crowd survival.
Is Breachout finished or still in development?
Breachout is released, with five hand-made buildings and a complete career structure. Dexsidius is still asking players to report unfair maps, weak weapons, or heat that rises too quickly. Feedback may guide fixes and balance changes after release.
