About Deep Ping

What is Deep Ping?

Deep Ping is a short underwater puzzle game with a sonar and Minesweeper twist. You guide a little submarine through a dark grid, using the numbers on charted tiles to judge nearby threats. It was made by kibbitz and runs in a browser on itch.io. The full game has four dives—Reef, Kelp, Wreck, and Abyss—and a boss at the bottom. A free browser demo covers the first two dives, so you can try the opening before deciding whether to continue.

How a run of Deep Ping plays

In Deep Ping, you chart tiles and read each number to see the total threat from nearby creatures. Choose which fights to take, then look for the hatch leading to the next dive. Ping a jelly or mine first to make it harmless; ping the giant squid to reveal its weak side. Defeating creatures earns XP, and each rank restores your hull and increases its size. A run takes about five to ten minutes, with four dives and a boss waiting in the full game.

Why Deep Ping is worth a try

Deep Ping gives a familiar minesweeper-style grid an underwater sonar theme. Chart a tile, read its threat total, and decide whether to risk a fight or keep searching for the hatch. Sonar pings also matter in specific encounters: they can make a jelly or mine harmless, or expose the giant squid’s weak side. The dives move from Reef through Kelp and Wreck to Abyss, ending at a boss. It’s a compact puzzle dive, not a monster-collecting survivors-like.

Who will enjoy Deep Ping

Deep Ping should suit puzzle fans who like reading clues, weighing risks, and finishing a run in five to ten minutes. Its touch-friendly controls work with touch, mouse, and keyboard across phone, tablet, and desktop. There are records, achievements, a creature log, and unlockable themes to chase between dives. Survivors-like fans may enjoy the threat-picking and upgrades, but expect a short sonar puzzle built around a grid rather than waves of enemies or collectible monsters.

Tap to chart tiles, long-press to mark them, and ping an area with sonar. Read the threat totals, choose your fights, and find the hatch to reach the next dive. The game supports touch, mouse, and keyboard.

Is Deep Ping like a survivors-like game?

It shares some appeal for fans who like choosing threats and improving between encounters, since creature defeats give XP and each rank restores and enlarges your hull. Deep Ping is a grid-based sonar puzzle, though, with a five-to-ten-minute dive rather than the survivors-like action loop.

The game is listed as released. Its full version includes four dives—Reef, Kelp, Wreck, and Abyss—and a boss at the bottom. The first two dives are available in the free browser demo.
